While capturing the romance of the past, Villa Le Mura welcomes you with the relaxed, friendly atmosphere sought after today. With this rare quality; it combines the most glamourous of settings with the happy, easy atmosphere of a home and is truly timeless in this respect. Once inside its gates you could be the count or countess Doninni who in the 18th century transformed a farmhouse into the beautiful villa you see today. Or possibly a screen icon from the 40’s at home in the grandure of the place, or a jean clad modern day traveller, all would be equally at home here. Most importantly you can be yourself, someone who apreciates the beauty of the past and the convenience of the modern wold.
If when you enter grounds of the Villa Le Mura the Italian gardens and painted façade of the house don’t tell you, you’re in for something special, the moment you step into the grand entrance hall with the vaulted roof supported on columns and the beautiful sweep of the Pietra Serena staircase will. When Lucca and Emma bought Villa Le Mura they realised a lifelong dream. To own a beautiful villa, restore it to its original style and form, and share their home with visiting guests. With an eye to the smallest detail, this is just what they have done. The Villa Le Mura is a labour of love and it shows, even the twisted electrical cording for the light switches was sourced from a firm in Paris.
They have seven rooms to offer and to describe them all in detail would fill a small book, but here are some of the highlights. On the ground floor is the contessa’s suite, sleeping three to four people in a double bed ensuit. The single bed is discreetly tucked away at the start of the sitting room before a shallow step leads you into the room proper. A door way at the far end leads to the bathroom and the master bedroom, so there is plenty of privacy for three people. Aside from the imense amount of space in this suite perhaps its best feature is the view from every window.
At the top of the stairs on the right is the Camera Rosa, a double room ensuite with a stunning frescoed ceiling, and the camera Gialle. Across the back of the staircase you enter into one of the more interesting rooms of the house, the poets’ room. Why is it called this? Well, take a look at the ceiling and you’ll see you are in the company of the greats. Dante, Milton, Petracha among others are all up there, honoured in frescoe. The Poets room leads through to the camera gialle and the Camera degli Amanti.
Beautiful as they are it is not the bedrooms which house the real jewels of the villa, these are reserved for communal areas and grounds. Upstairs you can rest, read, or plan your stay with friends in the great salon, or you may just enjoy the atmosphere of the room. Filled with 18th century frescoes and a great murano glass chandalier, it does not take a great stretch of the imagination to go back in time. But if you prefer something a little more intimate then there are two sitting rooms downstairs where you can read, write up the day’s aventures, play one of the many board games provided or if a little reality check is needed, watch television. Which ever you prefer, you will be surrounded by and sitting on antiques.
The grounds of the villa contain Italian gardens and a small park, leading down to the terrace with the pool and its comanding view of Panicale and the trasimeno valley below. The history and restoration of Villa Le Mura is filled with stories, and if you ask nicely I’m sure Emma and Luca would be happy to tell a few of theirs. One thing is certain; if you stay in the Villa le Mura you will go home with a tale of your own to tell.
The Villa can also be hired in its entirety for weddings and special occaisions.
