This farmhouse apartment
dating from 1777 is set in the peaceful countryside, at
a ten minute walk from the towns of Gioiella and Porto,
on the Umbrian-Tuscan border. The red brick arched portico
gives excellent cover from the elements, while the direct
access to the garden gives you all the sun (and sunflowers)
you have ever wanted. Its two bedrooms sleep up to five

The portico apartment was given its name
from the red brick portico on the bottom floor. It provides
protection from both sun and rain, making it a pleasant
place to sit and enjoy a meal from spring to fall. Two doors
in the portico provide two entrances of the three entrances
to the apartment. One goes to a bedroom and the second to
the kitchen area.
Portico is the only apartment with a separate kitchen. It
is equipped with a four-hub stove, an extractor fan and
a sink. The fridge is placed under the stove. Should you
need an oven, small electrical ones are available. I would
however recommend making your roast and potatoes in the
outdoor oven, as the taste provided by the burning wood
gives the food a unique flavor. The kitchen is not large,
but regardless, you are able to fit a breakfast table in
it.
The main entrance to the apartment is from the southern
face of the farmhouse. It leads directly into the living
room, equipped with a rustic wood dining table around which
you can seat six people. A sofa is also located here, as
is other rustic furniture that fits well with the renaissance
atmosphere.
A small hall from the living room gives way to the two bedrooms
and the bathroom. Like the other apartments, the bathroom
is equipped with a shower. A red brick arch leads to the
first bedroom, in which two single beds have been placed.
This arch is also visible inside this bedroom. A glass door,
equipped with shutters, leads to the portico.
The second bedroom is also accessed through the hall. An
annex has a single bed, while the main room is equipped
with a double one. This is the only apartment which a double
and a single bed in the same room, making it the most spacious
one and a good choice if you have small children. The ceilings
in this room are vaulted, giving it extra character.
Just like the Sperone apartment, Portico is larger than
the upstairs ones. It is equipped with its own central heating
should you want to visit in early spring or late fall, and
its own outdoor furniture for the warmer months.
