The Sperone apartment is the bottom floor apartment of the Macchione farmhouse, overlooking the Montepulciano Lake. Its location makes it an excellent base to visit Tuscan gems such as Siena and Cortona, or Umbrian jewels such as Orvieto and Chiusi. You can directly access the well kept grounds from its livingroom and bedrooms. A fireplace, wooden beams and cotto floors are only some of the features you will enjoy if you vacation here.

The Sperone apartment is located on the bottom floor of the Macchione farmhouse, overlooking Montepulciano and its lake. The Sperone is a section of the hull in ancient ships used for defense and attacking purposes. The structure of the Macchione’s west side reminds of such a hull, and has thus given its name to this apartment.

The bottom floors of farmhouses were used as stables and storage for tools and animal feed. The original floors where thus too rough to keep, and were replaced by handmade cotto tiles. The beams were sanded, and in some places replaced or enforced. Both bottom floor apartments are slightly larger than the top floor ones. This regardless of the fact that the walls are thicker, as an extension built on the north side just covered one floor. You can see its tiles on the floor plan of the top floor apartments.

The Sperone’s main entrance is through the western side of the garden and leads directly into the living room. It's visitors are greeted by a fireplace, a chest from the turn of the century, and the bedsofa. To the left is the open plan kitchen area, equipped with a sink and fridge. The four-hub stove was placed in a red brick construction, with an extractor fan right above it. As in all the other apartments, the dining table seats six people. An outdoor table is placed outside the main entrance should you want to eat outside enjoying the views.

A door placed to the right from the entrance leads, passing through a hall, into the first bedroom. It is furnished with two single beds and a rustic wood armoire, perfectly fitting in the farmhouse environment. A glass door from this bedroom directly leads to the garden. At night, it can be closed with shutters to prevent light from coming in.

The second bedroom is very spacious. It has a double hand cast iron bed, an armoire and a dresser. Its two windows overlook the garden, as does the large door. Even this door is equipped with shutters should you not want to be disturbed by the morning light. As trees cover this area of the garden, it is an ideal location for summer lunches.

The bathroom is fully tiled, and like all the others, equipped with a shower. Just like the other apartments, it has its own independent water heater and thermostats in the rooms control the central heating.
